Mushroom Foraging Sydney

Are you thinking of Mushroom Foraging near Sydney?

Awesome! Getting back to nature and exploring the outside world is a fantastic thing to do, not only for your physical health but your mental health too. And you are in luck, Sydney is one of the greatest places on earth to forage for mushrooms having two easily distinguishable, delicious native species. But you need to be careful, as there are as many look-alike mushroom species.

To understand how to forage for mushrooms around Sydney without the fear of being poisoned you need to first be aware of the most common poisoning mushrooms in Australia and more specifically NSW. The most common are the Death Cap, Yellow Staining, and Ghost Fungus (yes even though this one glows in the dark!!). Below is an excerpt from our Online Australian Identification Course:

Foraging for Mushrooms in Sydney

The key to avoiding these mushrooms is to be able to easily recognise them. For instance, the Death Cap in its youngest form is sometimes confused with the common field mushroom (like the one you find in the supermarket). One rule you might want to adopt when foraging is to avoid any mushrooms with gills as this would encompass the other five on this list. Another common mistake when people go foraging is they go to the wrong place, specific poisonous mushrooms are more common in specific regions than others as such we have made a mushroom map of Sydney to show you the best places to go.
