Mushroom Spores
Are you thinking of growing our own edible mushrooms? This can often be a way of avoiding any potential danger from misidentification. To get started you need a growing substrate and some mushroom spores (similar to plant seeds, but way, way smaller!).
Gourmet Mushroom Spores
There is a wide range of spores available for growing mushrooms our top ten based on flavour and ease of growth:
- Blue oysters - Pleurotus columbinus
- Italian Oyster - Pleurotus pulmonarius
- Golden Oysters - Pleurotus citrinopileatus
- King Oyster - Pleurotus eryngii
- Beech Mushroom - Hypsizygus tessellatus
- Cinnamon Cap - Hypholoma sublateritium
- Enokitake - Flammulina populicola
- Lions Mane - Hericium erinaceus
- Reishi - Ganoderma lucidum
- Stone Mushroom - Polyporus tuberaster
Morel mushrooms spores
These are difficult to obtain and are not often sold commercially. You may find dry spores online, however, they will be difficult to cultivate because morels need a very specific environment to flourish.
